Grief: Impacts on Early Childhood Development and Strategies to Support©

Participants will explore personal awareness of grief and examine definitions related to mental health, grief, trauma, and the whole person. They will explore cultural and generational factors that influence recovery from grief. Participants will engage in activities to discover varied student losses and the responses they manifest. They will learn strategies to support grieving children and families and promote wellness, attendance, and school readiness. Participants will learn transdisciplinary approaches to support grieving children, connecting the early years (pre-kindergarten to 3) through elementary to 12th grade.

Getting to the Heart of the Matter

This workshop is designed to educate teens about grief. Some teens may feel uncertain, sad, stressed, isolated, and out of sorts. The US Surgeon General has identified social media as a significant stressor negatively impacting youth mental health. This interactive workshop is designed to educate youth on how to identify stressors, connect emotions to behaviors, and help them identify healthy strategies to navigate grief, loss, and life changes.

Culture Brokering: Building for Tomorrow

Education about a research-based practice that seeks to intervene and dismantle the power dynamics that families experience when dealing with educators, schools, and districts. We see an opportunity to use the same skill set and apply it to building up people, businesses, and communities where power is shared safely and equitably. 

Mentorship: Community-Based Programs

Parents will learn how to invest in youth, people development, community advancement, and family upskilling. Mentoring community-based program participants offers an opportunity to discover ways to connect with direct service providers to receive ongoing real-life personal and professional development. 

Academic Advocacy Skills for the English Language Learner Family

This engaging and informative workshop will equip English Language Learner (ELL) families with the skills they need to successfully advocate for their children in their academic process.
